In September 2016 and April 2017 we trialed the vacation care concept for 1 week of each of the school holidays with much success. We partnered with Catholic Care as they already had the insurance to be at the school due to their Teen Time program and are familiar with the level of support needed for our students. They supplied the staff, sourced the incursions and screened the attendees. The trial was in the library of the school which has access to the primary playground and bathrooms. Access to the cottage bathroom was also allowed at times.
For the September Trial, 8 Cromehurst primary students participated in the camp for one week from 9-3pm in the Primary playground and library. There was a team leader and 2 disability support workers on site resulting in a 1:1 ratio per child on most days. In the April School Trial ran from Monday, 10th – 13th, as Friday was a public Holiday. It was held in the same location and for the same price as the September .
The programs for both camps was specifically designed for our kids and included: Sensory art incursion with " Art Express"( hand and feet painting, shaving cream play and sculpture Clown visit with balloon animal making and face paining Music and singing.
The daily fee's to families were $50/ day to encourage participation and be slightly above the typical rate with CCR rebate. The Foundation subsidized the program to make the $50/day possible.
